Barrafina

If you’re like me who’s the type of person who has a full fridge and then never fancy anything in there …then Barrafina is just the place!! Especially for a weekday dinner. Relaxed and intimate (but not romantic), ideal for a casual dinner date or 2-3 friends. Anymore would not really be suitable as you eat dinner at the bar. We initially went to the one in Covent Garden but had a waiting time of 30 mins, so we thought we’d have a go at the Embankment branch, where we had to wait over an HOUR for a seat as reservations could not be made. I usually wouldn’t wait this long… but MAN ….was it worth every second!!

Nibbled on these whilst waiting.  Banderilla… quail egg wrapped in anchovies, sweet pepper and olives

Barrafina is a Spanish restaurant ….which of course meant, tapas. So a little of everything (for those who can’t decide what to eat)! Each small portion was reasonably priced for the quality you get and just down right scrumptious.

Roast pork with crackling

There wasn’t any super fancy presentations – just fresh, simple, and full of flavour. At the end of the day, this is what really matters, does it not?
All the food we ordered was simply divine….but if I had to choose one, I would have to say the oysters cooked in a delicate batter with lime and chillies was just…perfect! I mean this just did wonders for my taste buds.

This was ridiculously good!

Their choices for food on the menu was just the right amount and a good mix. Some places have so much on the menu (that you can’t decide) or too little (where you don’t want any)!
The setting of the place is brightly lit, with light deco. As you sit at the bar, you can watch the chefs cook all this amazing food – right in front of your eyes. They didn’t look stressed liked you’d expect from a Gordan Ramsey kitchen, it was all very relaxed and good fun. The staff were friendly and knew exactly what was in their food and happy to recommend some dishes.

Dessert! Milhojas… Custard, cream in layers of thin pastry, topped with toasted almonds

I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxed fun dinner! The cost of food ranges from £3.80 – £14. Did I say that this place has just hit my personal list of top 10 places for a casual place to eat in London!

What are you waiting for…. Go! Let me know you’re thoughts…

Mimi
